It doesn’t take a lot to make me happy on a summer weekend – all I need is a vintage dress, Vogue magazine and tanned legs.
If only the weekend was here already…..

I found a friend for my Pamela Love scorpion ring!
When getting my nails done last week I saw a girl choose an amazing orange nail polish. I was already committed to Rouge Noir but thought “maybe next week….”.
Not used to doing orange nails I did my homework. I spent yesterday afternoon roaming the city – trying on polish after polish, hoping to find the perfect shade. I finally settled on a colour that is truthfully more coral than orange but still way-out compared to my usual rotation of Rouge Noir (Chanel), Lincoln Park After Dark (OPI) and maybe a royal blue or silver (depending on what OPI colour takes my fancy at the nail salon).
I didn’t realise until I got home that the colour exactly matches a vintage 70′s dress I picked up a couple of weeks ago. I know it is a bit “matchy-matchy” but I have decided to view the situation as a fashion statement rather than a fashion faux-pas. Am I right?
After being mistaken for a goth at speed dating I spent a lot of time thinking about what goth fashion actually is. Although it is not my regular style I do like a touch of the gothic every now and again.
So when I saw this scorpion ring by Pamela Love I was obsessed. After trying it on I left the store to think it over – a tactic I use to reduce my spending. Walking away from store ringless was horrible! Needless to say I went back that afternoon to get it.
Don’t you love a story with a happy ending. *Sigh*
Don’t you love it when something you buy actually lives up to your expectations?
Over Xmas break I bought many things (too many to mention) but one of my favourite buys was this diary.
Purchased from Typo (on sale down to only $5!) this diary has become the gatekeeper of my life. Each page has a single day, on which I write a “To Do” list. I am a great fan of To Do lists but mine often get out of control. But by having a separate list for each day I can schedule activities for different days. For example, last Tuesday I remembered that I should buy a birthday card for my cousin. On a regular “To Do” list this would languish at the bottom until the weekend making me feel bad that I haven’t done it yet. Using the diary, however, I was able to put in on my list for Saturday and forget about it until then. Revolutionary!!!
My inner nerd is loving the organisation and the glamour obsessed me loves the soft black leather and silver lettering. A win-win situation if ever there was one.
I love fashion nail colours as much as the next girl, but sometimes you just want something classic.
Rouge Noir has been a go-to nail colour of mine for years. Its dark and slightly dangerous overtones are just what I needed this weekend.
Radiant Touch has been a staple of my make-up bag for as long as I can remember. It does wonders for the dark circles under my eyes and during the steamy days of summer it allows me to go without foundation. Plus the gold packaging is gorgeous and it makes me feel glamorous each morning.
I usually keep two around so I don’t have to go without if one runs out – I’m that addicted!
What products can’t you live without?
I wouldn’t call myself a romantic, but I am a sucker for a good sunset. One of the joys of summer is the long-lingering sunsets, which give me time to grab my camera!
Enjoy!
One of my favourite pastimes as a child was to “explore” my parents’ closets. I never knew what I would find.
This is a habit I haven’t completely outgrown.
Every now and then I stumble upon something hidden in the back of a draw at Mum and Dad’s. One of my most treasured pieces was found this way. It is a bracelet made for my great-grandmother, engraved with her name and where she lived. Based on the location we believe it is over 60 years old. My mother swears she has another with the name of my great-aunt but so far I haven’t found it (I will keep looking though).
After taking possession of the bracelet (with my mother’s permission of course) I had the chain redone. I hated to change it but the chain was practically worn though and in danger of breaking, but the face remains untouched.
I love wearing it because it helps me feel close to my family no matter how far away they are.
What family heirlooms do you treasure?
Speed-dating has given me lots of stories (although sadly it has yet to produce a decent boyfriend).
One 7pm speed-dating event I went straight from work (who has time to go home and change?) so I was wearing a black dress, opaque stocking and heals. It was an outfit that was conservative enough for work and yet still dressy enough to go out for a drink (or two).
When one of my “dates” asked “Are you a goth?” I was totally shocked! Ok yes, I was wearing all black clothing, but this is Melbourne – black clothing is a given.
Turns out you can’t wear a crystal skull necklace without people thinking your a goth. Heads up to all the Alexander McQueen fans!
